This book of real life stories about people who took chances, cheated death, turned failure into success & turned their lives around, is a collaboration between Bob Hemmings and Graham Publishing Group.
Some people will tell you that self-publishing is really easy. Some people will tell you that it is off-the-charts easy. No, it’s not daunting, but it’s not easy.
It begins with the most difficult step of all. Sitting down every day and writing. One page a day. Two pages a day. Getting it done. My advice to people young and old is this: set a daily goal that is attainable and stick with it. One page a day equals a 365-page book in a year.
Stress is not your friend when you’re trying to write a book. Take pleasure in your page a day. Take pride in it.
Once you’re done with the first draft, you essentially have a book. Yes, you’ll want to take it through a second and third draft, but that is all about making the book dance.
Once the book is done, you’ll need a copy editor to polish it to perfection. Spelling, grammar, and word usage. Find the right person for this.
Next step, find the right person to design your book cover. This is the first thing people see, so it has to make an impact. It should not be overly expensive. There are plenty of creative people out there who can help.
Finally, you will need to have the interior of the book layout for printing. Very important. Again, this is a skill, so do your homework. The e-book requires the same focus and attention, maybe more.
Finally, finding the right printer for your print book is essential. Don’t settle for Amazon’s CreateSpace without doing your research. They are right for some people, but not all. You will want your ebook widely distributed, so make sure you’ve tapped into Kindle, B&N, Kobo, and Smashwords.
Last but far from least, you have to have a plan for marketing your book. If people don’t know it’s available, they can’t buy it. There are a few good resources for this; be selective. Know your market.
