We talked about this in our last post. If you write a novel, memoir, self-help book, or business book, there are any number of outlets that insure publication. There is still the good old-fashioned mainstream publishing route, and though there are far fewer publishing houses than there were 20 years ago, there are still many wonderful publishers looking for new material. If you choose to self-publish your book and choose your printer, book designer, and cover designer carefully, the end product can be a beautifully finished book.

Today, we would like to talk about e-publishing your book. There are so many platforms available for a well-designed e-book that e-publishing cannot be ignored. You have to have an e-book, whether you’ve chosen to pursue a mainstream publisher or you’ve decided to self-publish through your own company.

When someone looks for your book on Amazon or Barnes Noble, via Google Books or Smashword, you want to offer your readers a printed book and a beautifully designed e-book. Too many people these days are reading on a Kindle, a smartphone, I-Pad, or computer not to tap into this market.

A couple of things to know from our experience: you want to have a book cover that stands out; you want to make sure that the interior of your book is formatted for each of the major online platforms (this is crucial), and you want to make certain that your book is disseminated in the most effective fashion.

Lastly, come prepared to market your e-book. Have a plan for getting exposure for your book. If people don’t know your book is available, they can’t buy it. Lastly, do everything in your power to get reviews. So much of the industry is driven by reviews. Ask every person you know to spend five minutes putting a review on Amazon.

The message here is that you’ll want to be informed about the publishing process at any level. Yes, you will be published, but you want it done right.
